A little bear with a big nose -Premo from London

Once upon a time there was a little bear who lived in London.  He sat in the shop front of a delicatessen selling tea, honey pickles and cold hams.  In 1967 he came home in a brown paper bag on the back of a bicycle to be given to a little girl who kept him as her favourite toy even though everyone thought he looked funny with his big nose.  But she loved him.

Years later I set up a company to import raw honey into London and design lovely things for cooking and gardening that I liked, and wanted to have inspiration from something very dear to me that always made me smile.  Premo! Of course he loves honey and he was a sort of down to earth guy who would be found in the garden picking herbs and tending to his bee hives.  So Premo took up his role in my company and all his favourite honey on www.premofromlondon.com

  1. Promo was created for a TV advert for J Lyons Premium Tea. I worked for the company in 1967 and bought Pre,o ad I lwas vet it. Through serval moves over the years, Premo is no longer in my care. He generated from the Lyons Company in Brooke Green Hammersmith.

  3. Hi I have a beloved Premo bear too . I was born in 1964 I must’ve got him when I was about 4 or 5 years old. He is very worn now . I have a photo of us when I was about 6 . I would love to get him restored.

  4. Hi my wife has a premo bear which she has had since she was born I think, she’s 50 now. Poor old thing has 1 leg no fur and I drew on some eyes which my wife was quite unimpressed! I would love to get him restored also but fear it would be expensive:

    1. How cute! I sponges mine very carefully as his fur is falling out badly. He is now in a box waiting to be put in a glass cabinet to protect him. You should send a photo. As long as he has eyes, he can’t continue to see the world for another 50 years! 🙂

  5. I have a Primo bear. My Mum was a stock buyer for Nurdin and Peacock in Southampton back then, she was given him by the Lyons rep, mine is quite grubby but still all there. He must be 63 years old now.

  6. I also have a Primo bear, rather the worse for wear as he was loved to death from ‘65 or thereabouts so, much darning was required to keep him in one piece. He accompanied me everywhere at one time, suffered and witnessed the many horrors of childhood and was almost lost on a holiday in Ibiza in ‘69 I was told, he’s now enjoying retirement in a wardrobe nowadays.
Nice to hear there are some of his relations still out there.

    1. Hello, my Premo wishes your Primo kindest regards. Very happy he has family. Another two ladies also have Primo’s, so good still being cared for. I always called mine Premo for some reason. He is a glass cabinet in my studio. When my husband first saw him, he said how ugly he was with his big nose and I should let him go as I was an adult. I just burst into tears. Premo is family to me , he shared all my traumas and joys as a child and young adult. After telling husband Premos background and history he completely changed his mind and now sees him as a very historic brand of good old Britain.

      1. I woke him from his slumbers earlier for a photo call, I don’t think he’s seen daylight since the advent of smartphones or even the internet! Sadly I can’t add a picture to the message here 😦 I’m not on any social media either, if you can see the mail address I have to give to post here drop me a message and I’ll send it that way.

  7. I have a premo bear. I loved him more than any of my other toys. My aunt worked in finefare I believe. Promo was on display promoting Lyon’s premium tea. At the end of the promotion he was given to me.
he is sitting by me as I type. He is very well worn and could do with a repair. He ventured down from the loft recently to meet my 7 year old grandson who thinks he’s wonderful too. He got upset when I said promo was quite ugly with his big nose etc. there is no doubt though he has inner beauty.
